Geminids Star Party

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday December 13

6:30 PM  –  8:30 PM

When:  December 13 from 6:30pm—8:30pm
Where:  North Museum campus and North Museum planetarium

Get ready for one of the brightest, busiest, and most beloved meteor showers of the year! The Geminids can produce more than 100 meteors per hour under dark skies—and even from the city you can still catch dozens of sparkling streaks lighting up the night.

Our very own Resident Astronomer, Cole Penkunas, and Senior Manager, Kate Wilson, will be your sky guides for the evening. Learn about the constellations among the stars, planets currently visible, our place in the cosmos. Plus, what's going on with Comet 3I/ATLAS? Telescopes will be on-site (and fun to try), but the best way to watch a meteor shower is simply to look up and enjoy with your own eyes.

The event will be held at North Museum, with observing on the North Museum’s lawn. Telescopes will be present, but meteor showers are best observed with the naked eye.

We will be live streaming the meteor shower in the planetarium dome so you can still witness this spectacular event, even if it’s too cold outside!

What to Expect:

  • Star Map hand-outs
  • A wide-open view of the night sky
  • Guided telescope viewing and naked-eye stargazing
  • Instruction from North Museum astronomy educators
  • Career advice for budding astronomers and STEM-curious students
  • Certificate of Completion — perfect for your first resume!
  • Expert synopsis of the third ever interstellar visitor on a hyperbolic orbit, Comet 3I/ATLAS

Explorer Society members, North Museum Members, families, friends, science lovers, space nerds, middle & high school students, college students, and anyone who’s ever looked up and wondered what’s out there.
